When technology needs direction

Is your IT supporting your next stage of growth?

Unpredictable IT costs, outdated systems, unreliable vendors and disconnected software can make it difficult to decide what to fix first. A vCIO engagement brings those decisions into a shared plan, with priorities that leadership can review.

SMEs without an IT leader

Build a clearer strategy for technology spending and supplier decisions alongside your existing support arrangements.

Growing businesses and internal IT teams

Add strategic guidance to day-to-day technical capability, helping your team plan improvements and align priorities with management.

What we cover

Strategic IT guidance with a practical scope

IT assessment

Review the current technology environment, its limitations and the decisions leadership needs to address.

IT strategy and roadmap

Translate business priorities into a sequenced plan for technology investment and improvement.

Budgeting and investment planning

Develop an annual IT budget and prioritise spending against business needs and technology dependencies.

Vendor selection and oversight

Clarify requirements, evaluate options and coordinate accountability across technology suppliers.

Project oversight

Review priorities, progress and dependencies with implementation teams, while keeping delivery work separately scoped.

Business continuity planning

Identify technology dependencies and continuity priorities that need attention within your organisation.

Cloud planning

Assess where cloud services fit your requirements and plan the decisions and dependencies involved.

Management reporting

Maintain visibility of technology priorities and risks through a risk register and quarterly management reports.

How we work

Monthly guidance. Clear ownership.

The service is delivered by Real Secure’s IT advisory team on a monthly retainer, with one leadership meeting each month, onsite or remote.

  1. Understand: discuss your business priorities and existing IT arrangements.
  2. Assess and plan: prepare the initial assessment and prioritised roadmap.
  3. Review and guide: use monthly meetings to review priorities and guide vendor and project decisions.
  4. Report: provide quarterly management reports and an annually reviewed IT budget.

Pricing is quotation-based, with scope and meeting arrangements agreed before the engagement begins.

Work with the team you already have

Keep your IT provider. Add strategic direction.

You can buy vCIO separately and retain your existing support provider. Real Secure can oversee third-party vendors as well as its own implementation team within the agreed advisory scope.

vCIO and Managed IT Services

vCIO focuses on strategy, budgets and oversight. Managed IT Services address day-to-day support and operations under a separate agreement.

vCIO and Transformation Advisory

vCIO focuses on technology direction. Business Transformation Advisory addresses broader operational processes, financial visibility and business improvement.

What is outside the vCIO retainer?

Daily helpdesk support, implementation work and fees, specialist compliance advice and dedicated vCISO services are excluded. Where additional work is needed, its scope and quotation must be agreed separately. Strategic oversight does not replace the responsibilities of your implementation or support providers.

Frequently asked questions

Virtual CIO services: your questions answered

What is a vCIO service?

A virtual Chief Information Officer provides ongoing strategic IT guidance without the client appointing a full-time CIO. Real Secure helps connect technology priorities, budgets and project decisions with business needs.

Can we keep our existing IT support provider?

Yes. vCIO is available as a standalone advisory service. You can retain your support provider, while Real Secure provides strategic guidance and oversight of third-party vendors or its own implementation team within the agreed scope.

How often will we meet?

The monthly retainer includes one leadership meeting each month, onsite or remote. Meeting arrangements and the scope of ongoing work are agreed in the proposal.

What will we receive?

An initial written assessment and prioritised roadmap, an IT budget reviewed annually, a risk register and quarterly management reports. The depth and scope of these deliverables are agreed for your organisation.

Does the retainer include helpdesk or implementation?

No. Daily helpdesk support, implementation work and fees, specialist compliance advice and dedicated vCISO services are outside the vCIO retainer. Any separate services require an agreed scope and quotation.

How much do vCIO services cost?

Pricing is quotation-based. Contact Real Secure to discuss your organisation, current IT arrangements and priorities so we can define a suitable monthly engagement.
